About Me

My name is Alyssa. I am a totally blind clay artist. It is an honor to be the owner and creative mind behind Out-Of-Sight Creations LLC. My roots are in polymer clay, however I love working with other types of clay, and I am passionate about showing the world that blind artists can create beautiful and functional pieces of art.

How I Began

When I started a job in 2023 at a blindness and low vision clinic, I was introduced to the art classes which were available to clients and staff. While in my very first art class at this clinic, the instructor told me one of the art mediums she had available to work with was clay. I assumed she meant ceramic clay, which would need to be fired in a kiln, which makes lovely pieces by the way. She explained that the material she worked with was called polymer clay, and that it could be baked in a standard oven. My first ever polymer clay project was a miniature sculpture of my Seeing Eye dog at the time, Jan.

She also told me that polymer clay can be used to make items such as magnets, trinket dishes, holiday ornaments, and jewelry. She introduced me to the wide variety of polymer clay colors she had available, and taught me various methods for adding texture to my pieces. I quickly became fascinated by polymer clay, and knew I wanted to purchase some for myself to make projects at home.

I spent approximately the next two and a half years refining my craft. I have made many items, and still continue to refine my craft to this day. Somewhere along the way, I knew I wanted to share my art with more people, besides just continuing to give handmade items to family and friends. Years ago, when I dabbled in other crafts, my mom had the idea for the name Out-Of-Sight Creations. I knew this was the name I wanted to use when I made the decision to start a business.

To this point, I have mostly discussed my roots in polymer clay. I also want to add that I have worked with air dry clay and ceramic clay. I am still refining my air dry clay work at this point, and it may be present on the site in the future.

What I Make

I create a variety of handmade items, including jewelry, trinket dishes, and ornaments with more item types which will be added at a later date. I love making colorful and textured items that cater to a wide range of preferences.

I hope you enjoy all that this shop has to offer. Please stay tuned, as new items will be added often!
